New-born baby rescued from school pit toilet in KwaDukuza

A new-born baby has been pulled out alive, from a pit latrine at a high school in KwaDukuza.
Paramedics and firefighters carried out the rescue earlier today.
Newswatch understood firefighters had to break through a concrete slab to get to the infant.
Authorities believe the child was born today.
Pictures from the scene show the new-born with the umbilical cord still attached.

KwaDukuza municipal spokesperson, Sipho Mkhize has confirmed the mother is a learner at the school.
"They had to perform the rescue of an infant that was in a pit toilet. At this stage, we would like to miss the details due to the incident involving a minor. However, we want to put it on record that the infant was rescued and stabilised," Mkhize said.
Mkhize says both mother and baby are being treated in hospital.
