South Africans are expected to feel the pressure from Eskom's proposed tariff increase.

 The parastatal has applied for an annual increase of 15% over the next three years, in an attempt to recover revenue losses of more than R762 billion.

The National Energy Regulator - NERSA - has been holding public hearings in Cape Town today, allowing members of the public to voice their concerns around the matter.

Last year, NERSA approved an increment of 4.1%, which will come into effect in April this year.

The regulator's Charles Gabela says they will be in Durban from Thursday.

"We started the pub hearings today and we will be going to all the provinces. stakeholders and members of the public who are interested in making representations during these public hearings have been requested to registered," he says.
