Members of the SA Federation of Trade Unions are demanding an end to poverty, unemployment and corruption and crime.
They want better pay and health care, among other things.
SAFTU's asking its workers to stay away from work today.
Demonstrations are expected to take place in Joburg, Bloemfontein, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth now called Gqeber-gha.
Here in KZN, protesters will gather at the Curries Fountain Sports Development Centre this morning.

They will be transported to Pietermaritzburg, for a demonstration outside the legislature. Numsa says its members will join the "stay-away." Spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola.
"Numsa as affiliated with Saftu will be participating in the national stay-away on Wednesday."
"The Saftu national strike is a protected strike under section 77. We have mobilised all our members in various regions and in different parts of the country."
