N3TC issues winter holiday travel warning ahead of traffic surge
The N3 Toll Concession is urging motorists to drive cautiously as wet weather and increased holiday traffic are expected from Friday.
As schools across the country close for the winter holidays, the N3 Toll Concession says traffic volumes are expected to increase on the N3 Toll Route from Friday.
"The N3TC and its Road Incident Management System (RIMS) partners are on high alert and ready to respond to any incidents or emergencies that may arise on the N3 Toll Route between Cedara in KwaZulu-Natal and Heidelberg in Gauteng.
Motorists are also being urged to drive with extra caution as cold, wet weather sets in across parts of the country.
The N3TC has suggested they avoid travelling at night where possible.
Spokesperson Thania Dhoogra says data shows that nearly half (49%) of all crashes on the route, over the past five years, happened at night.
"The N3TC advises road users to stay informed and plan ahead of their journeys on the N3 Toll Route as cold [and] wet weather has been reported.
"Combined with increased traffic volumes and reduced visibility, greater concentration is required for motorists as minor distractions could have disastrous effects."
