MUT quashes reports of power struggle in top echelons
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The chairperson of Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) has denied reports of a power struggle within its senior structure.
The university has been hit by a number of scandals ranging from allegations of poor management, security tender fraud and the inability to secure a permanent vice-chancellor.
During a media briefing on Thursday, chairperson Morailane Morailane said they were in the process of finalising candidates for the position.
It's reported one of them is a former employee who left due to misconduct.

This has drawn the criticism of Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande, who has indicated he'll be instituting his own probe into the situation at MUT.
Morailane denied any power struggle or manipulation of any kind among its higher ranks.
“I deny that vehemently, there is no power struggle in the university both with the current management, acting management and also the previous one.
"What I know is that we always will insist on performance at a higher level and if there are problems with management not meeting those performance expectations, it might be called power struggle."
