MUT protests: Management assures registration resumes today
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
The Mangosuthu University of Technology says its registration process will continue today, following a bout of student unrest yesterday.
The eThekwini Metro Police were called in to disperse throngs of angry students at some residences in the city centre yesterday morning.
"There were students that were promised accommodation. When they arrived, there was a dispute between them and the landlords. There were approximately 200 students in the vicinity of those three locations. Metro police was called in and they dispersed the crowd," spokesperson, Parboo Sewpersad said.
The students' grievances were understood to relate to various issues - including registration and housing - but the university has said in a statement that calm has now been restored.
