He was speaking on Monday following the release of the report of a probe into the National Arts Council's handling of the Presidential Employment Stimulus Package.

The NAC was tasked with distributing nearly R300 million to the creative arts sector to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

But it was hit with claims it mismanaged the funds, with some members who sit on the council said to have irregularly benefitted from the package.

Mthethwa says any money that was received irregularly must be recouped and those involved in any misconduct must face the consequences.

"We want to make this an example to anybody, entity of our department that they must know that people are going to be held accountable and we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that perpetrators are brought to book.

NAC Chairperson Princess Celenhle Dlamini says when mismanagement was flagged, they halted payments.

She says they know where most of the money is.
