Msunduzi says can't afford financial relief for ratepayers
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
While other municipalities have come up with various relief programmes to help residents meet their financial obligations - Msunduzi says it can't afford such a measure.
The City has warned ratepayers impacted by the COVID-19 lockdown not to expect any financial relief.
The municipality was placed under administration last year - as a result of maladministration and irregular expenditure - among other issues.
Municipal spokesperson Thobeka Mafumbatha says the impact of the coronavirus pandemic has exacerbated their financial situation.
She says they're asking residents to pay for services so the City can, in turn, pay providers such as Eskom.
