Msunduzi Municipality targets residents owing rates
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Msunduzi Municipality will be claiming payments owed by ratepayers.

"If this situation persists, we are going to be attaching their assets as well," Msunduzi's Thobeka Mafumbatha says.
Mafumbatha says they're also offering a reprieve for residents.
They'll be given a discount of 50% or more off their bills until January 4.

She says they had to resort to tough measures to get ratepayers to pay their debts which have ballooned to a collective R2 billion.
"If the account is handed over to lawyers, the lawyers will do their collections. Once the lawyers are doing their collections, you must know that you are going to be charged with interest. Failure to pay will result in your assets being attached," she says.
