Motshekga pleased with security measures to avoid matric question paper leaks
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says she's confident that the Class of 2021 is fully prepared for the crucial National Senior Certificate exam papers.
She was monitoring day one of the exams in Midrand on Wednesday morning.
Close to a million candidates are currently writing English Paper 1.
Motshekga said despite the many challenges, this year's matrics were well supported.
"There has been lots of support coming for them. You have you matrics, the private sector - everybody has really been crowding around them. Teachers also were quite conscious that they are a class which is highly seriously disadvantaged because of 2020 pandemic.
"Also, on their part, they knew that they have this challenge and I'm told they have been extremely cooperating."
More than 200 000 Grade 12s are writing in KwaZulu-Natal.
The minister is pleased with the security measures they have put in place to prevent question paper leaks.
"We have done all we could possibly do so if they happen, I really think it would be quite sad because we had auditing teams going to provinces, auditing their system to see if there are no risks and they came back with the report to say provinces have really put all the necessary measures in place to protest the papers so we hope they don't happen again this year."
