They are calling for an overhaul of the entire justice cluster, after the provincial commissioner's claims of high-level corruption within the system.

Thousands chanted for hours in the Durban heat on Tuesday as they made their way from Curries Fountain Sports Development Centre to Hoy Park near Durban central police station.

They demanded the suspension of implicated officials, the establishment of an independent judicial inquiry and the protection of whistleblowers, among other things.

The memorandum was received by National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola, who made this promise.

"I'll review your memorandum. I will send it to the relevant office."

Vincent Mdunge, one of the march organisers from Umnotho Wabansundu Civic Group said they hope to receive a response from Ramaphosa within 14 days.

"If he does not, we are saying to him we are going to embark on a national march."

Should Ramaphosa not respond, he said they will escalate the matter to the Public Protector, the Judicial Service Commission, parliamentary portfolio committees and the Constitutional Court.
