Witness testifies Mjilo resigned after alleged workplace conflict with murder accused
A former colleague testified that Ayabonga Mjilo had complained about her working relationship with her team leader, murder accused Mfanafuthi Kunene, weeks before her death.
The Durban High Court has heard that call centre agent Ayabonga Mjilo did not have a good working relationship with the man accused of murdering her.
Mfanafuthi Kunene is back in the dock as his kidnapping and murder trial continues.
Mjilo, 23, was found buried in a shallow grave at Kunene's Inanda home in December 2024.
Kunene was seen leaving an Umhlanga restaurant with Mjilo before she was reported missing.
A witness who was Mjilo and Kunene's co-worker took the stand on Wednesday.
Workplace tensions revealed
Nokwanda Mcanyana told the court that weeks before Mjilo's death, another colleague brought Mjilo to her to confide in her as a fellow female colleague.
Mcanyana testified that Mjilo was crying and told her that she felt victimised by Kunene, who was her team leader at the call centre.
Kunene allegedly prohibited Mjilo from getting assistance from other agents, something which Mcanyana said Mjilo needed as she was still new.
Mcanyana told the court she then addressed the matter with Kunene.
But in mid-November 2024, Mjilo informed her that she had resigned from the company, apparently because she was not happy working with the accused.
One last witness is expected to be called to the stand.
