Millions visit top KZN business establishment
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
More than two-million people have stepped through the doors of the Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga, north of Durban this week.
The festive season has seen thousands of people flock to KwaZulu-Natal, with the tourism and retail sectors receiving a major cash injection.
Gateway's Michelle Shelley says customisable technology, fashion, Star Wars merchandise, perfumes and body products are some of the hot items of the year - flying off the shelves.
"A lot of retailers can double their turnover over the festive season, which is key for them because it often carries them through the quiet times of the year.
"Busy malls mean busy stores, which is great for any business owner. It's a very key time on the retail calendar for us," she said.
Meanwhile, KZN Tourism says the province is much busier than last year.
Spokesperson Ncumisa Mafunda is encouraging travellers to be safe on the roads as they enter the province.
"We're happy to host them. We're rolling out the red carpet and we want them to enjoy our beautiful province. There's so much on offer and we say #YouGottaLoveKZN," she said.
