Mick Fanning's mum unhappy about SA parody advert
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The family of an Australian surfer is unhappy after a South African advertisement depicted a parody of the near shark attack the champion survived earlier this year.
Mick Fanning made a lucky escape when a shark charged at him while competing at the J-Bay surfing competition in Jeffreys Bay, the Eastern Cape. The ordeal was captured on live television in July this year.
The surfing champion who punched and kicked the marine predator was not injured in the incident while the tournament was cancelled soon afterwards.
Fast-food chain, KFC released a video that shows a surfer that resembles Fanning skillfully holding the shark over his head.
The sportsman's mother, Elizabeth Osborne says the advertisement is "disrespectful" and that those that have survived shark attacks will be reminded of their traumatic experiences.
