Mchunu vows to end pensioners' grant theft
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The Office of the Premier says it will support the Department of Social Development as it takes on allegations of fraudulent deductions off pensioners' social grants in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Earlier this year Premier Senzo Mchunu received complaints while in KwaCeza in Zululand of the deductions sometimes more than R90 every month.
Mchunu provided the community feedback yesterday.
He says his office initiated an investigation after getting clearance from the relevant SA Social Security Agency authorities.
''We applaud the Department for taking actiuon against this act, especially because we are also against anyone deducting the pensioners' money illegally.
''We take this matter seriously and fully support the Department of Social Development [DSD], in every way to ensure that it never happen again,'' he said.
