The Basic Education Department has advised matriculants to prioritise their mental health ahead of the release of the 2025 National Senior Certificate exam results.
They'll be announced on 12 January, with learners expected to collect their statements of results the next day.
Department spokesperson Terrence Khala says support measures are in place for learners who may not achieve the results they had anticipated.
" It is important for them to also prioritise that self-care and to remind themselves that there are always additional opportunities.
"The department does have the Second Chance Matric Programme, which we do invite and encourage candidates that might not have achieved as well as they would've liked to. We do encourage them to also register for the support programme."
Meanwhile, KZN Education has praised teachers for their commitment to next year’s Grade 12 academic programme.
Pupils will return to the classroom on14 January, but most schools have announced that lessons for the Class of 2026 will begin next week.
KZN Education's Muzi Mahlambi says the early start to the new year reflects teachers’ commitment to learners’ education.
" We appreciate the dedication of our educators to cut their holidays when they are supposed to be still with their families, and we appreciate the dedication by the learners to then attend those classes because they have seen this kind of practice is yielding result.
"Hence, we are hoping that they will cooperate and attend those classes, and we also appreciate parents for releasing and trusting us with their learners when it's still holidays."
