Deputy President Paul Mashatile has opened up about what he
believes to have been an attempt on his life.

Mashatile says he was on his way from an ANC National Executive Committee meeting when his convoy was shot at in Boksburg, near the N12 several days ago.
Speaking to reporters in Greytown on Sunday, Mashatile said he initially thought it was stones being thrown at his car.

He says they only learned later that shots had been fired at the vehicle.
"When we got home, the protectors said the impact was too much, and they want to take it for checking because you know a bulletproof windscreen is too strong to be damaged. That is why they are doing the investigation."
