The Pietermaritzburg High Court has sentenced a man accused of two counts of rape and robbery to two life imprisonment and a total of 69 years.
35-year-old Thokozani Jerome Mkhungo from Margate would target houses with females living alone. Mkhungo's modus operandi involved breaking-in, raping and then robbing his victims of their belongings.
Police Spokesperson, Thulani Zwane, says all the sentences will run concurrently.
"The man raped the women by targeting them while they were in their homes in the Margate area from 2010 up until 2014. The cases were reported at Margate Police Station," he said.
"He was later arrested following hard work by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Investigations Unit from the Ugu area," Zwane said.
