Margate beach remains closed
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Ugu municipality officials are urging locals to exercise patience as Margate beach remains closed until further notice.
Late last month two sewage pumps - one in Margate and another in Ramsgate broke down.
This forced some of the contaminated water to be pumped into the lagoon and sea.
The municipality's France Zama says the pumps have been fixed but they need to monitor the purification process before re-opening the beach.
''We have been advised by the environmental services to close the beach because there are ongoing tests that are being conducted. This will continue until we get the water test results back and we are satisfied that they are in an admissible condition,'' he said.
