Man shot dead in Newlands West

Police were investigating a shooting in Durban's Newlands West area on Monday that left a man dead.

Maveshin Odayar from One Stop Medical Services say the attack happened in Parlock. 

 

"We found a male that was deceased on scene with two gunshot wounds. It appears two armed suspects approached him, fired two shots and then left. There was no theft or anything of that sort." 

 

It comes as a murder case has been opened at Verulam SAPS after a man was burnt to death.

According to police reports, the victim and several others were sleeping under the Canelands bridge when a group attacked them on Sunday.

 

Reaction Unit SA's Prem Balram says the 35-year-old victim is believed to have been a vagrant.

 

"According to the witness, several members of a community patrolling team had arrived on scene, burnt the blankets and then burnt a friend to death. They then fled the area."
