Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says a single vehicle crash occurred on Rodger Sishi Road, that's the old Blair Atholl Road.
Jamieson says the car crashed into a tree and barrier in the vicinity of Marlowe Avenue.
"Paramedics arrived on scene to find a single vehicle against a tree. An elderly man was still inside the vehicle. Medics immediately assessed him but he had sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased. SAPS were also on the scene. At this stage it is unclear what caused the crash," he said.
Meanwhile, seven people were killed in a separate crash near Maphumulo in the Ilembe District after a vehicle plunged into a dam yesterday.
