Man in court for illegal possession of precious stones and gold

A 45-year-old man is due in court after being found in possession of gold and precious stones in Musina in Limpopo.
Police say the man is also charged with bribery after allegedly offering officers money in exchange for his freedom.
"A custom official was busy performing his duties as a scanner operator at the Beitbridge border post when a white truck was profiled for scanning," police said in a statement.
The driver was asked to open the back of the truck and after refusing he offered officials an amount of R200 in order to let him go.
"The truck was escorted to a scanner and after the scanning process it was physically searched."
Officials found precious stones as well as gold in the man's possession where after the suspect was arrested and charged.
He will appear in the Musina Magistrate's court while police investigations into the origins of the precious stone and gold are ongoing.
