Man impaled by fence at Durban home

A man is recovering in hospital after he became impaled on a fence at a home in Durban North.

The 43-year-old apparently tried to climb over a palisade fence when he fell and hurt himself in the early hours of Monday morning.

It’s understood the man isn’t related to the family living on the property.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst says paramedics found him hanging upside down with injuries to his legs.

"Shortly after 2am Monday morning, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a falls at a residence in Durban North.When medics arrived at the scene, they found the man hanging upside down with the spikes deeply embedded in his lower limbs.

“The man had sustained traumatic injuries and was treated on scene by Emergency Care Practitioners. 

"In order to free the man, a portion of the fence had to be cut away by a Netcare 911 rescue technician with the assistance of the eThekwini Fire and Rescue Services. Once stabilised, the patient was transported to hospital for further care.”
