Police there say they received information that 58-year-old Tau Lekoa was in possession of a large quantity of commercial explosives.

Provincial Saps spokesperson, Thlangelani Rikhotso says Lekoa apparently hired a man and paid R10,000 to carry out the killings.

She says the man has now turned State witness.

"He gave a statement to the police regarding the alleged payment that he received to allegedly bomb the house belonging to the suspect. He has not been arrested, but will be a State witness. He will help us going forward," said Rikhotso.

Rikhotso says the Hawks were led to an empty shack where explosives believed to be valued at R1-million were found.

Lekoa has appeared in a court in Orkney and is expected to apply for bail next week.
