Emergency services say the 57-year-old woman was shot in the abdomen after four suspects stormed the Park Road home, near Queensburgh.

Police are still trying to establish whether anything was taken.

Spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says Marcelle Meiring's family had been in another room when they heard the gunshots.

"The four suspects entered the home and allegedly shot the woman. A case of attempted murder and house robbery has been opened at Malvern SAPS for further information. No arrests have been made. We are appealing to anyone who might have information to please come forward," he said.

Meiring's daughter, Melanie says her mother tried to prevent the intruders from entering the home.

"She obviously saw them come in through the front door and she ran towards them to try and push them back and keep the door closed. It was at that point that they shot her. They tried to fire a second shot,  but it seems the gun jammed. She managed to force them out the house and get the door closed," she said.

Melanie says her mother saved their lives.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Hillcrest, a 78-year-old man escaped unharmed after he was attacked by three suspects at his home last night.

Police say the suspects demanded cash from him before taking jewellery from his home.

Zwane officers are still searching for the suspects.

"They threatened him with a knife and took him to one of the bedrooms where he was tied up. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of property from the house and fled the scene. They also took his vehicle," said Zwane.

The man's vehicle was later found abandoned in the Molweni area.
