Bheki Mngomezulu has been speaking to Newswatch following the commencement of Julius Malema's trial on corruption and other charges in Polokwane yesterday.

After a brief appearance, Malema maintained his innocence as he addressed EFF supporters, insisting that he wanted his day in court.

The party leader also encouraged his supporters to not come to the trial everyday, saying he will fight this battle and report back to them.

Mngomezulu says Malema may be trying to portray himself as a law-abiding citizen.

"He's doing that but at the same time Parliament is revising certain rules and procedures which are meant to curtail  what the EFF has been doing in parliament. So, in a way, instead of using the court for what it is meant he is in fact using it to amass as many political points as possible," he said.

Malema's case is expected to resume today. The EFF leader, together with directors of On-Point Engineering Lesiba Gwangwa and Kagisho Dichabe, face charges of racketeering, fraud, corruption and money-laundering.
