LOOK: Bheki Ntuli inspects Durban beaches following COVID-19 closure

Transport and Community Safety MEC, Bheki Ntuli, says he's pleased to see that Durban's holidaymakers are complying with stricter beach rules.
He says a few people were spotted along the promenade, under the watchful eye of the police. KZN's beaches were closed yesterday, after President Cyril Ramaphosa said that bathers aren't allowed to visit them on Reconciliation Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, among others.
Ntuli says the beach is traditionally where many would head to, to mark the start of the holidays.
"We are very happy that our own people are respecting the call by the president and government, even if there is no swimming, people are able to enjoy the walk around the beach."

eThekwini Mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda also monitored compliance by visitors and locals yesterday.
"Although we also acknowledge that the economy will be hit hard, especially tourism sectors like the restaurants will be hit hard because of this closure."
But we have to balance the two to saving the lives of our people and their livelihoods because there are those who are working in these restaurants who may lose their jobs if there is a hard lockdown put in place.
