Local elections: 5.4 million registered voters in KZN
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
Of the 26.3 million eligible voters registered for this year’s local government elections, 5.4 million people were registered in KwaZulu-Natal.
Provincial Electoral Officer, Mawethu Mosery says the KZN figure is an increase of about 600 000 voters from the last general elections held in 2014.
''We are indeed encouraged by the response of the citizens of KwaZulu-Natal to participate in our democratic process of electing our representatives into the various houses of government,'' he said.
Yesterday was the deadline for political parties and independent candidates to submit their lists with the names of the candidates who will be contesting the August 3 municipal poll.
''Those parties that successfully concluded candidate nomination need to respect the code of conduct and for them to achieve that they must start with a public commitment to the code of conduct which they will do on June 9,'' he said.
