Load shedding blamed for Umgungundlovu water woes
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Umgeni Water says the water shortages in some areas of Umgungundlovu are due to the protracted load shedding.
"Because Umgeni Water is unable to pump water to its reservoirs, its reservoirs remain empty and therefore, Umgeni Water is unable to supply water to the district municipality for reticulation to Umgungundlovu and uMshwathi," says the utility's spokesperson Shami Harichunder.
"So these two areas are being badly affected by water supply interruptions."

Harichunder says there's very little they can do from their side to improve the situation.
"Eskom reduces the time which it is supplying electricity to Umgeni Water supplies.
"We are also trying to get Eskom to exempt Umgeni Water infrastructure from load shedding and we are still in discussions with Eskom over that."
