[LISTEN] Zondo commission questions Saxonwold venue for Duduzane’s meeting with Jonas

Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo has questioned the choice of venue for the infamous meeting between Duduzane Zuma, Fana Hlongwane and former finance minister Mcebisi Jonas in October 2015.

Duduzane Zuma
State Capture Inquiry

The son of former president Jacob Zuma concluded his testimony at the commission of inquiry into state capture on Tuesday with Zondo, who is the commission’s chair, asking him why the Gupta residence was the choice for a meeting.

The meeting in question is the one where Jonas was allegedly offered R600 million by the Guptas to take up the position of finance minister.

“The difficulty with that is that I would think that in your own house you would receive friends and if you would receive friends, you would offer them drinks.

"So why would the fact that there are certain catering facilities at the Gupta residence be an important factor in a choice of venue?” asked Zondo.

Earlier during his testimony, Duduzane told the commission that the choice of venue at the Gupta residence in Saxonwold was mainly attributed to proximity from the Hyatt Hotel, which was the initial venue agreed upon.

Duduzane also told the commission that he didn’t like having meetings in his private residence.
