Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Some KZN residents have given a mixed reaction to the news that Durban won't be hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Addressing the media at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban yesterday, Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula explained the reason behind the decision.
He said South Africa could have hosted a world class event with a R4.3-billion fund approved by Cabinet however the Commonwealth Games Federation's requirements topped this amount.
These residents have spoken to Newswatch about their reactions to hearing the news.
Event organisers reportedly missed various submission deadlines with the Commonwealth Games Federation.
An amount of R118-million was spent on Durban's 2022 Commonwealth Games bid while the Department of Sports and Recreation is yet to give details as to how the funds were spent.
