Motorists will have to pay between 48 and 50 cents more for a litre of 93 and 95 octane petrol respectively.

While diesel is going up by 37 and 39 cents a litre.

East Coast Radio's Traffic Guy and driving expert Johann Von Bargen has advised motorists on ways to reduce fuel consumption.

Von Bargen says there are other aspects that drivers need to keep in mind whilst on the road.

"If your back windows are wide open - you get the parachute effect. That slows your car down and you have to battle to get the car going. When your back windows are open - the air comes in and gets cornered by the back windscreen - causing the parachute effect which slows down the car a lot and that starts pushing the fuel consumption up.

"With regards to tyre pressure - whatever the recommended tyre pressure on the inside of the driver's side of the door stick to that or 0.1 up from that. Also, don't drive with a flat tyre because that will cause a fuel consumption problem," he said.
