LISTEN: Ad Hoc Committee to shortlist Public Protector candidates

Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee member Floyd Shivambu has motivated that the next Public Protector should be someone who will be able to hit the ground running.

The Committee is currently sitting to nominate on one of the five short-listed candidates for the position.


Speaking on the candidacy of Judge Sharise Weiner, Shivambu said given the burden on the South African Public Protector's shoulders, the candidate needs to have an understanding of how the office operates - and get straight to work.

 

Fellow committee member, Werner Horn, disagrees - saying as a judge, Weiner is suitable because her current job requires her to find facts and apply the law.
