Lifeline for SA students: second fund in pipeline
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Department of Higher Education is working on a secondary funding programme similar to NSFAS to cater for students from middle class backgrounds.
This will target people who are unable to access loans due to their credit risk profiles.
Department spokesperson Khaye Nkwanyana says an announcement on the launch of the funding project should be made next year.
''We are currently engaging on that process now - there's an engagement with banks led by the NSFAS chair, Sizwe Nxasana.
''Soon we might be making an announcement on that in terms of funding those who fall within the cracks but at this stage we're dealing with the most poor,'' he said.
