Licence renewal still required despite 10-year validity approval, KZN drivers warned
KZN drivers must still renew expired licence cards until the approved 10-year validity period is officially implemented nationwide.
The KZN MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma is urging motorists to continue renewing expired driving license cards until the new law extending the validity period comes into effect.
National government has approved an extension of the validity period for driving licence cards for light motor vehicles from five to 10 years.
The MEC's spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya says plans are underway to introduce a new driver's licence collection point.
“ The MEC has announced that there are plans to introduce - for the very first time in KwaZulu-Natal - a drive-through driver's license collection point. This will be introduced at the Pinetown Driver's License and Testing Centre. The head of the Department of Transport, Sibusiso Dlamini has already visited the Pinetown DLTC to engineer these changes working with the highly efficient team from Road Traffic Inspectorate.”

Sibiya says the department aims to improve service delivery at a number of driver's licence testing centres.
“ He has singled out Mkhondeni, Rosebank, Amanzimtoti, Empangeni and other DLTC and the MEC has said these must be given much needed attention. We need to reduce waiting times where possible, streamline processes and ensure that every citizen is treated with dignity, respect and professionalism”
