Labour receives over 3 000 COVID-19 compensation claims

The Department of Employment and Labour says it will continue to compensate people who contract coronavirus at work.
The department's received more than 3 000 COVID-19 claims so far.
South Africa's now confirmed over 538 000 cases, with KwaZulu-Natal yet to reach the peak of its outbreak.
The department's Teboho Thejane says Rand Mutual, which covers mostly metal workers and those in the steel industry, has paid out more than R3 million independent benefits.

"Three thousand four hundred and twenty-four COVID-19 claims that have been received directly through to the compensation fund.
"Two thousand and thirty-six has been received directly to the compensation fund, our partner Rand Mutual received 1 314 claims, whilst federated employers received 74 claims.
"There are claims that have been received and [sent back] and the compensation fund is encouraging those employers to resubmit the correct information.," says Thejane.
