Updated | By ECR Newswatch
A team of doctors and nurses from Zululand have received a pat on the back for what has been described as a miraculous” delivery of quadruplets.
Nongoma resident, Nobuhle Qwabe has given birth to quadruplets - one boy and three girls.
The babies weigh between 1kg and 1,3kg.
The doctors who helped with the delivery - Dr Sithole and Dr Kenneth Mbele, say they were alerted by nurses after discovering she was carrying more than one baby.
The 27-year-old expectant mum, who had not attended prenatal classes prior to the day of delivery, says she was surprised when she was informed by hospital officials.
“I honestly didn’t know I was carrying four babies. I was really not expecting it. But when the doctors arrived, and the babies kept coming, I didn’t know what to say. I was shocked, but I’m excited now,” she said.
The newborns are all healthy and will be transferred to another hospital for a higher level of care.
Qwabe is also mum to a nine-year-old girl.
Health MEC, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo has congratulated Qwabe, while urging all pregnant women to begin prenatal care early to ensure the best care for both mum and baby.
