KZN unrest claims nearly 80 lives: Zikalala

The KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala says nearly 80 people have lost their lives and over 1 000 arrested since the start of the riots in the province.
Zikalala says the figures are expected to go up.
He was speaking in the KZN Legislature on Thursday.
Zikalala says the exact cost of damage to infrastructure is still being collated.

"If we are conservative it is around R3 billion or more.
"The infrastructure damage in key economic centres and especially in shopping malls, trucks and routes such as N2 and N3.
"The social cost of damage might come in as a form of increased food insecurity , unemployment and poverty in years to come.
"In eThekwini alone, our estimate are that unrest as resulted to R15 billion worth of property, loss of stock worth of about R1.4 [billion] and has placed about 150 000jobs at risk."
