KZN Storm: Death toll reaches 19

The storms in KZN have claimed more victims with authorities confirming that 19 people have now died over the last three weeks.

The province has been lashed by heavy rains and strong winds- with two tornados hitting two towns this week. Local government authorities say over the last 23 days - 13 people have been killed by lightning strikes around the province.


In the north of Durban an elderly couple was killed when a wall at their Amaoti home collapsed during a downpour on Monday night.


The following day a tornado ripped through New Hanover in the Midlands claiming the lives of a man and a woman. Two other victims drowned in Ulundi and KwaDukuza. 


Search and rescue teams have been out every day this week, searching for people who're still missing.


Meanwhile the SA Weather Service says we will get a break from the inclement weather today. The weather service says Sunday is also expected to be warm - with a 30 percent chance of rain expected in the evening.
