KZN officials working on solutions to N3 truck attacks

The KwaZulu-Natal Premier says they've come up with a list of solutions to deal with the attacks on truckers and protest action on our national routes.

"A rapid response team will be on the ground ensuring that there is sufficient policing in all areas. All cases where trucks have been damaged or burned should be followed and investigated," Premier Sihle Zikalala said.  

Sihle Zikalala's been speaking after talks with representatives from the trucking industry, police and transport.  

Yesterday's meeting follows the torching of 17 trucks in KwaZulu-Natal, at the weekend.  

It emerged that local drivers are angry over the employment of foreign nationals.

Police Minister, Bheki Cele says so far, they've arrested 91 suspects in connection with these incidents like these. 

"The destruction of property must come to an end with immediate effect," Cele said.

Priya Hassan who's with Positive Freight Solutions says 60 of their trucks were burnt in three weeks.

"We will not tolerate an attack on our people - being our drivers. So to those individuals and perpetrators out there - who think they are sending a message to our nation by deliberately obstructing and causing this chaos - you are moving towards further economic instability in this country," Hassan said.
