KZN Health facing lawsuit over Durban maggots case
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The family of a man who was found with maggots in his mouth at RK Khan Hospital is suing the KwaZulu-Natal Health Department for R7-million.
Sadek Ebrahim was admitted to the Chatsworth hospital in mid-June to be treated for gangrene.
He died in hospital two weeks later.
His family is accusing the hospital of neglect.
Ebrahim's wife has denied counter-claimed that they hadn't been looking after him properly prior to his admission to hospital.

Their attorney, Theasan Pillay says they have issued letters of demand and claims for general damages.
He says Ebrahim's wife is claiming R2-million while their son, who witnessed the incident, is suing for R5-million.
Pillay says it's not about the money - as it won't bring peace to the family.
"The lasting image that he has is of his father's mouth infested with maggots. That's haunting to say the least. I don't think anyone can emphathise to the degree of trauma this has had on him," Pillay said.
