KZN Education: No schools closed due to COVID-19
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The KZN Department of Education says no schools have been closed in Durban due to COVID-19 fears.
This after a Phoenix school-issued out a letter to parents yesterday requesting them to take their children home. It is understood this happened after a staff member was asked to self-isolate after returning from an international trip.
Departmental spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says if a case is detected at a school, they will follow guidelines from the Health Department.
"We do not want a situation where people spread fake news and creating panic, especially during times of examination", he said.
"This would create a scenario where parents panic and pick up children from school. It would be chaos" ,Mahlambi said.
The Phoenix school is expected to be open on Monday.
