The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education will tomorrow - the first day of the new term - deliver a fleet of busses to shuttle pupils in the rural farming region to and from school.

Last year, rights organisation Equal Education took its fight for scholar transport for these children to the Pietermaritzburg High Court.

And in November, it secured an order - by consent - in terms of which the province’s Education and Transport departments undertook to work together to provide a bus service by no later than April 1.

Spokesperson for the provincial Department of Education, Kwazi Mthethwa says the busses will be handed over tomorrow.

"In line with the court judgement, the Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal will hand over busses to those deserving schools," he said.

Mthethwa says around 2,900 learners stand to benefit from the service in the Nquthu area.
