KZN cop in court for allegedly taking bribe
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating the conduct of one of their own men in blue, after he allegedly took money from a suspect in Ladysmith.
It is alleged the officer had promised a suspect, facing charges of intimidation that he could make his case disappear.
The 39-year-old officer was arrested on Wednesday.
The police's Thulani Zwane says a disciplinary hearing is also underway.
Zwane says the officer appeared in court yesterday.
"His case was remanded until the 26th of this month and he was released on R2000 bail. He was arrested after the provincial anti-crime unit was informed about his criminal acts. The suspect had alerted members of the SAPS," he said.
The province's top brass has applauded the anti-corruption unit for making the arrest, saying it sends a strong message that no one is above the law.
They're appealing to communities to report any incidents of police corruption.
