KZN ANC confirms appeal against high court ruling

The ANC in KZN will be appealing the Pietermaritzburg High Court's decision on its eighth provincial elective conference.
The Pietermaritzburg High Court found that the party's provincial elective conference and its results were unlawful.
Former premier, Senzo Mchunu was ousted as chairperson and replaced by KZN chair Sihle Zikalala.
Provinicial spokesperson, Mdumiseni Ntuli has told Newswatch the decision was made at yesterday's meeting with the Provincial Executive Committee.
"The issue that remains is - that it's a constitutional matter - that whether or not the Provincial Executive Committee can convene the meeting earlier than the time it was supposed to take place. It requires to be challenged. If we leave it like this, it sets the wrong precedent," he said.

Ntuli says the party has sufficient reason to challenge the ruling.
"If you read the judgement carefully, it points out to only one fundamental issue - whether or not the then PEC had the authority to convene an earlier conference. It indicated that on matters of irregularities, which were raised by those who took the ANC to court, there was no substantive material basis to make a judgement that could've punished the credibility of the conference," he said.
Analyst, Zakhele Ndlovu says even if the court had ruled in favour of the current leadership - the damage has already been done.
"This matter could have been resolved without the other side going to court. This means the ANC as an organisation is no longer able to sort its internal matters. This was supposed to stay within the family," he says.
