Kruger Park invests in drone technology to tackle poaching
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The Kruger National Park has invested R16-million in drone technology in an effort to crack down on poaching.
Authorities will spend the next 12 months evaluating the effectiveness of drones in the fight against wildlife crimes, especially rhino poaching.
Otto Werdmuller from UDS, a South African-based company focusing on unmanned aerial vehicle systems, says they fly for about two and half hours.
"Generally we fly for about two and half hours and we're given intelligence of where to fly. If we establish where there are incursions and if we identify where people are on the ground, we then give those coordinates to the rangers," he said.
