#KessieNair: Bail ruling set for next week
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
Durban businessman, Kessie Nair will spend at least another a week behind bars.

Nair - who's been charged with contravening the Riotous Assemblies Act as well as crimen injuria for calling the President the K-word in a viral Facebook video - wrapped up his bail application in the Verulam Magistrate's Court yesterday.
The matter's been adjourned until next week for a ruling.
In his closing address, Nair's attorney Chris Gounden said his client was the first crimen injuria accused since the dawn of democracy to be incarcerated and have the State oppose his release on bail so strenuously.
He described Nair's prosecution as malicious and a witch hunt and said by jailing him, the court would be signing his death warrant as he was on the waiting list for a heart transplant.

The State's Carlson Govendar said that if he were released on bail - it would be impossible to monitor Nair and that he could easily delete his social media accounts and in effect, destroying important evidence. A ruling will be made next Wednesday.
Nair will remain in custody.
