Information regulator gives Transunion deadline to notify clients following cyberattack
TransUnion has been given until the end of business today to submit a report to the Information Regulator on how it plans on notifying the millions of South Africans affected by a massive cyberattack on its systems.
Hackers in Brazil are believed to have targeted the agency.
They have told TransUnion that if it doesn't hand over R224 million, they'll expose sensitive information relating to loans and credit agreements of over 50 million people.

The Information Regulator's Nomzamo Zondi says they've asked the credit bureau to also come up with a solid security plan to prevent cybercrime.
"The people that own the data, the personal information we feel that they hadn't been adequately notified about the data that has been breached.
“Because in turn, that can cause malicious damage to the people, whether it can be financial distress, et cetera. So that is one of our concerns as the regulator that generally we should all be worried about cyberattacks that currently has been looming the country."
