The United Nations Children's Fund provides humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries, including South Africa. Through its various developmental and child protection programmes, the organization aims to eradicate violence against children - while creating a platform for their holistic growth.
Levels of physical, emotional and sexual violence against women and especially children in South Africa and globally- continues to escalate at an alarming rate. According to UNICEF SA, many crimes against children - especially violent crimes - are not always reported to police.
However, according to UNICEF SA statistics - the number of incidences of violent crimes against children which are reported, remains alarming:
