Inflation slows ahead of repo rate announcement

CPI inflation slowed to 5.3 percent in April.
This rate was 0.8 of a percentage point lower than the corresponding annual rate of 6.1 percent in March 2017.
On average, prices increased by 0.1 percent between March 2017 and April 2017.
According to Stats SA food and non-alcoholic beverages decreased from 1.5 percentage points in March to 1.1 percentage points in April.
The index increased by 6.7% year-on-year.
Transport decreased from 1.1 percentage points in March to 0.7 of a percentage point in April. The index increased by 4.6% year-on-year.
Miscellaneous goods and services decreased from 1.2 percentage points in March to 1.1 percentage points in April. The index increased by 7.3% year-on-year.
